Freestyle Ceramics

Explore without Rules

In this workshop, you are the starting point.
For 3 hours, you’re free to explore clay without a predefined project, developing your own ideas at your own pace, with our guidance along the way.

You’ll be able to experiment with different forms, volumes, and approaches, from more functional pieces to more intuitive ones. There’s also space to work on surfaces using engobes, exploring color, texture, and mark-making.

It’s a time to test, take risks, and see what happens when you give space to the process.
The workshop lasts 3 hours and is open to all experience levels, perfect both for those who have never worked with clay and for those with some experience who want to keep exploring in a more open way.

No prior experience is needed, just a willingness to get your hands dirty.

  • Hosts: Marisa Grilo & Felipe Rocio

  • Duration: 3 hours

  • Prince: €50 for person (All materials and firing are included).

Printing on Ceramic

From drawing to clay

In this workshop, we explore the relationship between drawing and ceramics, bringing graphic elements directly into the clay.

Throughout the session, you’ll create your own piece while experimenting with different ways of marking, printing, and transferring drawings onto the surface , exploring how image, texture, and form come together. Instead of more traditional painting techniques, the focus is on imprinting and embedding the drawing directly into the material.

You can work from your own drawings or simply experiment and let the process guide you.

Through these processes, you’ll create unique pieces where gestures and traces are embedded in the clay.

The workshop lasts 3 hours and is ideal for anyone curious about exploring ceramics through drawing.

No prior experience is needed, just a willingness to get your hands dirty.

  • Hosts: Marisa Grilo & Felipe Rocio

  • Duration: 3 hours

  • Prince: €50 for person (All materials and firing are included).

Tile Painting

Create with History

In this workshop, each participant creates a small mural made up of four tiles.

We begin with sketching ideas and transferring them onto the tiles. You’re welcome to bring references from your walks around Porto, patterns, façades, or details that stayed with you, and use them as a starting point for your project. Throughout the session, you can choose to draw directly, use tracing paper, work with molds and stencils, or combine different approaches.

The workshop is designed to make the creative process accessible, even for those who don’t feel comfortable drawing freehand.

Inspired by a city where tiles are part of the landscape and its memory, this workshop is also a way to explore a technique with history and create something personal from that tradition.

The session lasts 2 hours and no prior experience is required.

  • Hosts: Marisa Grilo & Felipe Rocio

  • Duration: 2 hours

  • Prince: €45 for person (All materials and firing are included).

Paint Your Ceramics

A bowl, cup or plate!

For when you want to create a ceramic piece, without working directly with clay.

In this 2-hour session, you’ll personalize pre-fired pieces from our selection. You can choose two items, such as cups, bowls, plates, or wall pieces, and transform them in your own style.

Unlike building a piece from scratch, here the focus is on drawing and color. With full creative freedom, you can use ceramic pencils, engobes, and glazes to explore different approaches to painting and decoration.

Each participant experiments, combines techniques, and creates unique and functional pieces.

The workshop is open to all levels and requires no prior experience.

  • Hosts: Marisa Grilo & Felipe Rocio

  • Duration: 2 horas

  • Prince: €60 for person (All materials and firing are included).

Nerikomi

Ancient Japanese Technique

In this workshop, we explore the Japanese technique of Nerikomi, where clay is colored and combined in layers to create patterns directly within the material.

Throughout the session, you’ll learn how to pigment your own clay using oxides and build unique patterns, from simple combinations to more graphic compositions. You’ll then transform these patterns into pieces such as small plates, cups, or decorative objects.

Each piece emerges from the process, making it entirely unique and one of a kind.

The workshop lasts 3 hours and is ideal for anyone curious about color, pattern, and hands-on experimentation.

No prior experience is needed, just a willingness to get your hands dirty.

  • Hosts: Marisa Grilo & Felipe Rocio

  • Duration: 3 horas

  • Prince: €60 for person (All materials and firing are included).

Sunday Ceramics - Family Style

A workshop for everyone

A session designed for a different kind of Sunday, focused on shared creative time.

Once a month, we open the studio for a more accessible ceramics experience, giving everyone the opportunity to explore clay in a relaxed and informal way.

Families, friends, and groups are invited to experiment with ideas, forms, and processes at their own pace, with our guidance. Like our Freestyle Ceramics sessions, the starting point is each person, here in a lighter, more social format.

The focus is on the experience, the time spent together, and the pleasure of creating with your hands.

The session lasts 2 hours, comes at a reduced price, and is open to all ages.

No prior experience is needed, just a willingness to get your hands dirty.

  • Hosts: Marisa Grilo & Felipe Rocio
