Freestyle Ceramics
Freestyle Ceramics is a workshop designed for those who want to explore ceramics in an open and flexible way, without a predefined project.
Participants develop their own ideas with guidance and support, exploring form, volume, and surface. In addition to hand-building, it is also possible to experiment with colour using slips.
The workshop lasts 3 hours and is suitable for all experience levels.

Printing on Ceramic
This workshop explores the relationship between drawing and ceramics by incorporating graphic elements directly onto clay.
Participants experiment with different ways of marking, printing, and transferring images onto ceramic surfaces, creating pieces that combine image, texture, and form.
The workshop lasts 3 hours and no previous experience is required.

Tile Painting
In this workshop, each participant creates a small mural made of four ceramic tiles.
The process starts with developing ideas and transferring them onto the tiles. You may draw directly, use tracing paper, or work with stencils to support your design.

Paint Your Ceramics
In this 2-hour session, you will personalise pre-fired ceramic pieces such as a cup and a small plate.

Nerikomi
This workshop explores the Japanese ceramic technique Nerikomi, a process that involves colouring clay and combining layers to create graphic patterns directly within the material.
Participants will develop their own patterns and learn how to prepare and work with coloured clay, transforming it into unique pieces such as small plates, cups, or decorative objects.
The workshop lasts 3 hours and no previous experience is required.

Sunday Ceramics is a relaxed workshop designed for a creative Sunday experience.
Families, friends, and groups are invited to work with clay at their own pace, focusing on the shared creative moment rather than a final result.

Fundamentals of Handbuilding
4-Class Series
Sundays | 3pm – 5pm

This course is designed for those who want to begin or strengthen their ceramics practice, following the full process from raw clay to finished pieces.
Across four sessions, participants learn key hand-building techniques and gain an understanding of the ceramic process step by step.
Class 1 - Pinching
An introduction to clay through pinching, exploring basic forms, volume, and hand gestures.
Class 2 - Slab building
Working with clay slabs to create functional or decorative forms, focusing on structure and surface.
Class 3 - Coil building
Building pieces using coils, developing height, rhythm, and form.
After the third class, there is a one-week break to allow the pieces to dry and undergo their first firing.
Class 4 - Glazing and firing
Applying glaze and understanding the final kiln firing process.
A hands-on and accessible course for beginners and curious creatives. No previous experience is required.
Creative Exploration & Advanced Techniques

Printmaking
Kitchen Printing - Tetrapack Edition
This session explores printmaking using everyday materials, working with recycled milk cartons and a pasta machine as a press.
Participants create their own printing plates, learn how to work with printmaking ink, and produce unique prints on paper, discovering graphic possibilities through simple and accessible processes.

Cyanotype Workshop
This session explores cyanotype, a printing technique that uses light-sensitive substances to create images in deep blue tones.

LEGO Printing Workshop
In this session, LEGO bricks are used to create printing plates through simple shapes and modular compositions.

Freestyle Acrylic Painting
In this workshop, you’ll explore acrylic painting in a free and accessible way, even if you’ve never painted before. We begin with a simple sketch and a light introduction to colour and contrast, simply as support for the creative process.
From there, each participant develops their painting in layers, exploring gesture, composition, and colour mixing at their own pace, without pressure for results. The focus is on experimentation and creating a personal image.

Wet on wet
In this workshop, we explore water as the main creative tool in a more sensory and contemplative process. Using watercolour or diluted Chinese ink, you’ll work with the wet-on-wet technique, allowing the paint to spread freely across pre-wetted areas.

Comics Workshop

The rental includes only the space. Raw materials and other consumables must be brought by you.

Firings in the DoBarro Gas Kiln
Our gas kiln allows for different atmospheres and expressive results — ideal for those who wish to explore material behavior and the depth of reduction or oxidation firings.
Firing up to 1050 °C – 180 €
Ideal for low-temperature work or specific effects on terracotta and slips.
Glaze firing up to 1240 °C – 200 €
For stoneware or porcelain pieces, with the possibility of experimenting with unique variations and reactions provided by the gas kiln.
Firings are scheduled by appointment and subject to prior approval of the pieces.

About us
DoBarro is a ceramics studio and shop founded by Marisa Grilo, Felipe Rocio, and Samuel Sanção, artists and designers passionate about art, education, and sustainability.






Marisa Grilo
Marisa Grilo is a visual artist based in Porto. She holds a degree in Arts from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto and a master's degree in Sculpture. Her work focuses mainly on ceramics and printmaking, following a deeply intuitive approach that explores various methods and materials in an experimental manner.
Felipe Rocio
Felipe Rocio is a Brazilian artist living in Vila Nova de Gaia. He holds a degree in Visual Arts from the Institute of Arts of São Paulo State University (UNESP). After moving to Portugal, he completed a master's degree in Fine Arts at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto (FBAUP). Felipe has a strong interest in working with children, using art as a means to explore creativity and memories, encouraging artistic expression and sustainability in a playful and accessible way.
Samuel Sanção
Samuel Sanção is a Brazilian designer and illustrator based in Vila Nova de Gaia. With a postgraduate degree in Illustration (FBAUP) and currently pursuing a master's in MIEI, he is dedicated to creating visual narratives in comics, illustrated books, and board games, as well as conducting illustration workshops.
